For Individuals, Couples, Children, and Families - With Lillie McCatty, LMHC
Types of Counseling Offered

Having someone to talk to who listens without judgement and provides insight, coping skills, and other types of information can be irreplaceable.  Existential Psychology is a preferred theoretical background emphasizing choice and accountability as a form of creating positive change. We incorporate a number of other models as indicated including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Narrative Therapy, and insight-oriented psychotherapy. Plus, we always work from a trauma-informed approach.

In addition to traditional talk therapy we utilize a variety of psychodynamic techniques for those who are interested.

Drama Therapy and other Creative Arts Therapies are fundamentally about the idea that sometimes feelings and experiences are too overwhelming to be addressed directly. At any age it can be useful to use a projective object such as a piece of music or artwork, or perhaps a puppet, mask, or fictionalized story, to access the feelings or underlying issues in a less threatening way.

For children, the use of play as a communication tool is vital. In addition to other projective techniques, the use of sand tray, doll house, dress up, roll play, and games facilitate processing and progress in counseling. We feature a fully-stocked play room for use with younger clients.

Group counseling is another highly valuable method of receiving important information. The theory of group counseling is that the group members can help each other exponentially and healing can occur without fear of isolation or stigma. This can be especially important for those struggling with social anxieties or a lack of pro social skills.
